Two-Wheeler Sales Soar


Two-wheeler sales rose sharply in September as companies increased dispatches anticipating strong demand during the ongoing festive season. Wholesale numbers for both Hero Moto Corp and Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI) increased by 11.2% and 32.1% to an all-time high of over 6.7 lakh units and 5.69 lakh units respectively.
TVS motors, posted a 30% increase in wholesale numbers at over 2.87 lakh units. Due to supply chain disruptions, the company lost production of 25,000 units, TVS Motor Company said in a BSE filing.
Domestic two-wheeler sales were at 2.53 lakh units as against 1,9 lakh units in the same month last year, up 33.62%.
Motorcycle sales rose 35.9% to 1.22 lakh units in September as compared to 90,393 units in the same month a year ago. Scooter sales grew 12.7% to 84,850 units from 75,307 units in the year-ago period, it said.
At Yamaha, sales breached the 1 lakh units mark, growing by a robust 22%.
Royal Enfield volumes rose by 30% to 57,842 units last month.
Bajaj Auto reported a 2% decline in total sales in September at 3.76 lakh units as against 3.84 lakh in the same month last year.However, the company's motorcycle sales during the month rose 1% to 3.31 lakh units as against 3.30 lakh in September last year.
The sharp rise in the two-wheeler space found resonance in the passenger vehicle segment as well. Maruti Suzuki sales grew by 29.4% during the month, but for Hyundai, sales volumes remained almost flat at 42,605 units.
