India & Russia

India has lodged a protest with Moscow over Russia's recent “anti-terror“ joint military exercise with Pakistan, a country accused of sponsoring and promoting terrorism. The development comes ahead of the 17th annual India-Russia summit on October 14 in Goa on the sidelines of the Brics summit. PM Narendra Modi and President Vladimir Putin will review the entire gamut of bilateral relations amid growing uneasiness here over Russia's security ties with Pakistan.
Russia, in fact, had earlier agreed to hold the exercise in the disputed Gilgit-Baltistan region but backed out after India took up the issue with Moscow. Russia's first ever military exercise with Pakistan in the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa region in September came days after the Uri attack in which Pakistani terrorists killed 19 Indian soldiers.
India and Russia share a special and privileged strategic partnership.
Saran also talked about cooperation in the civil nuclear sector, trade and investments. Saran said as far as nuclear cooperation was concerned, the ties were “historic“. On commercial ties, he said the two sides were “actively“ working to meet the bilateral trade target of $30 billion by 2025.
