26% growth in domestic passengers @ Jaipur Airport

After three years of negative growth, the Jaipur International Airport has registered a whopping domestic passenger growth of 26% in 2015-16, bringing cheers to Rajasthan's tourism sector.
This is higher than the national average growth of 20.5% for the year. Passenger traffic swelled from 18.71 lakh in 2014-15 to 25.40 lakh in 2015-16, adding 7 lakh passengers more than the previous year.
This can be attributed to the significant rise in domestic aircraft movement, which rose from 18,648 flights in 2014-15 to 22,772 in 2015-16. During the same period, the frequency of flights has also shot up from 32 daily in May 2015 to 48 at present.
The new terminal is meant to handle 70 flight movements. After completing the air runway extension, the airport has overcome the last obstacle for the entry of premium luxury international airlines.
Experts are betting on air traffic soaring this financial year also. In the first four months of this financial year, from April to August, passenger growth has surpassed in comparison to the corresponding period last year.
The major share of passenger load was claimed by low-cost airlines, which also ate into a large chunk of railway tier I & II passengers. Throughout this year, the cost of Jaipur-Mumbai and Jaipur-Delhi flights a week in advance stood at around Rs.3,500 and Rs.2,500, respectively.
The low-cost arm of Singapore Airlines Group Scoot on Monday introduced thrice a week flights between Jaipur and Singapore with a promotional fare of Rs.4,699.
Scoot will also provide onward connectivity to destinations like China, Bangkok, Australia and Bali through parent group's flight network allowing the jewellers in the city to travel directly to these trading hubs.
