Gujarat gets a new CM

Three days of intense speculation finally ended in Gujarat with Gujarat BJP president Vijay Rupani being declared as the new Chief Minister of the state. The new government will take oath of office on Sunday at Mahatma Mandir in Gandhinagar.
But the declaration came with its own share of drama with state health minister Nitin Patel being projected as the prospective Chief Minister ahead of the meeting of the MLAs. So much so that Patel's bio data was circulated in the media and his interviews as the prospective Chief Minister being aired in the electronic media, even before he stepped into the BJP headquarters in Gandhinagar on Friday. Patel on his part was happily accepting congratulatory greetings on the possibility as well.
Even senior leaders of the BJP Gujarat Unit on Friday morning seemed to have resigned to the possibility of having Patel as the next Chief Minister of the state albeit without much pleasure.
Rupani on his part had earlier made a statement to media indicating that he being a man of organisation was happy being president of the state unit of the party , which was widely interpreted as his withdrawal from the race of chief minister's position, leaving a solace position for Patel.
However, on Friday evening BJP legislature meeting sprung a surprise and BJP observer Nitin Gadkari announced before the media that Vijay Rupani will be the next chief minister of the state, adding that the outgoing Chief Minister Anandi Patel has proposed the name of Nitin Patel as the deputy chief minister, which was seconded by more than ten leaders and the decision was taken unanimously .
However, sources within BJP had indicated that Anandi Patel had put her foot down against both Amit Shah and Rupani succeeding her, as a matter of fact, Vijay Rupani had made a statement before media saying that he was happy being the president of the party and working for the organisation, which was widely read as his exit from the chief ministerial race, fuelling the speculation in support of Nitin Patel even further.
However, with the surprise resurrection of Rupani's name in the legislature meeting reportedly saw some animated exchange between the party president and the outgoing Chief Minister, who in a last ditch effort to retain some control managed to get Nitin Patel appointed as the deputy chief minister.
