Three days before his 152nd birth anniversary, Lucknow – the City of Nawabs gave a special and commemorative gift to the Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore, as 1,21,653 staff and workers of Sahara India Pariwar sang the national anthem ‘Jana Gana Mana’ in unison at a place, eclipsing the current Guinness record of 42,813 persons held by Pakistan. Late on Monday night, Guinness represenatives confirmed the feat.
On Monday morning over one lakh Sahara workers proceeded towards Ramabai Ambedkar Rally Sthal with an infectious zeal and enthusiasm to accomplish the task. And, continuous breeze only made things relatively smoother for the organisers, as they staged rehearsals a couple of times, only to ensure that they struck the right note at the right moment. Written in Sanskritised Bangla, ‘Jana Gana Mana’ was first sung at the Calcutta session of the Indian National Congress on December 27, 1911. It was officially adopted by the Constituent Assembly as the National Anthem of India on January 24, 1950.
