Karnataka Election results

The Congress’s decisive win has not only ousted the first BJP government in south India, it has also dented the perception that the saffron party is the favourite for the 2014 Lok Sabha contest. Besides, it has earned a breather for the Manmohan Singh government at a time when it is under siege over corruption charges
and is fending off demands for the resignation of its “tainted” ministers.
The Congress won 121 seats, eight above the majority mark, with a vote share of 36.6%, leaving the BJP far behind with a humbling 40 seats. The JD(S) also won 40 seats, while notching up a vote share of 20.1%, but failed to realize its ambition of playing kingmaker in the state where fractured verdicts had been the norm. B S Yeddyurappa’s KJP scored just six seats (9.8% vote), but seems to have contributed to the BJP’s humiliation.
