Tiger shot dead in Kerala

It was after two weeks, the tiger that spread terror in Noolpuzha panchayat was killed by the special task force (STF) at Thelambatta . The big cat evaded capture for two weeks and killed around twenty animals.
The tiger was killed after two tranquilizer darts failed to sedate the big cat. As per initial estimate, the 12-year-old male tiger is not the one that was released at Bandipur after being caught in Appappara near Thirunelli on November 14.
Karnataka’s STF and state forest officials were informed about the tiger’s movement in Moolamkavu area on Saturday night. Around 5 am, the tiger tried to attack Chanthiyam Varghese’s cow in Moolamkavu. The team waited for daybreak to resume the hunt.
The big cat entered the coffee estate after being hit by a tranquiliser dart. After half-an-hour, the tiger was spotted inside the estate. The animal jumped at onlookers after the second dart was fired. This prompted the task force to open fire. The carcass was kept at Moolamkavu for one hour so that people could get a glimpse of the cat.
It was later taken to the office of the wildlife warden at Sultan Bathery.
A seven-member team of led by Forest Veterinary Office Dr Arun Zacharia conducted the autopsy in the presence of National Tiger Conservation Authority’s representative. Dr Zacharia said that the carcass will be shifted to the wildlife sanctuary in Parambikulam for preservation.
