Somewhere in Assam....

Poachers shot dead an adult male elephant and cut its flesh in Dulung reserve forest in Lakhimpur district. They also beheaded the elephant and took away its trunk, tusks, and limbs
“No one has been arrested so far. A preliminary probe suggests that three people sneaked into Dulung forest to kill the reserve’s only elephant on Thursday. They shot it dead and cut it into pieces at night. Although we got the information about the gang’s operation, they managed to escape,” an official said.
Angry locals alleged that forest officials arrived 10 hours after the incident. “It’s really barbaric. But it happened only because of the failure of the forest department. We condemn both the incident and official negligence,” a villager said, adding that they were saddened there was no elephant left in the forest.
Several regional organizations, like AASU and KMSS, too, condemned the incident and demanded a high power inquiry.
After a gap of almost eight months, poachers killed a female rhino at Rajiv Gandhi Orang National Park in Assam . However, poachers failed to take away the horn following prompt retaliation by the forest guards. This is the second rhino death in Orang this year. Meanwhile a tiger was killed in Kaziranga National Park. Park officials said the tiger died due injuries after fighting another tiger.
