Mumbai Metropolitan Region Railways snippets

Railway is set to start new services connecting Panvel and Dahanu stations by the end of the month. The line would prove to be a boon for those who commute between these two stations, as they lie at two extreme ends of the Central (Harbour) and Western lines respectively.
Railway is planning to start five new services on the route on a daily basis. “The time table is being worked out and services should later this month,” said Shyam Sunder Gupta, chief spokesperson for the Western Railway (WR).“We plan to run MEMU rakes (Mainline Electric Multiple Units), a shuttle service, on this route,” Gupta added.Currently, MEMU rakes’ services are used on the Diva-Panvel-Roha route and Vasai-Diva route. However, on this route, the services terminate at Vasai station. With the commencement of this new service, commuters can directly take a train from Panvel to Dahanu. The new service would give boost to the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) beyond Virar. Plans are in the store to extend the MMR region till Dahanu. The Western Railway (WR) also has plans to take the EMU services to Dahanu which otherwise extend till Virar. The shuttle service is already widely used by the local villagers between Panvel-Diva-Vasai as it not connects the Central line to the Western line. It also proves to be a boon for Bhiwandi. The Diva-Panvel-Roha line is useful for villagers between Roha and Panvel as the area after it is an industrial belt.Interestingly, by the month end, the CR would also be starting its Turbhe-Nerul section. The commuters would be able to take a direct train from Thane to Nerul.
