More Pune trees to be axed

This amazing green canopy is soon going to be a thing of the past!
The new Holkar bridge is coming up at a huge cost: At least 221 trees that line the three main roads that lead to the bridge, Khadki Road, Yerawada Road and Mula road (to Arjun Road) are being cut to make way for the new eight-lane, split road that will lead up to and along the existing bridge. A team of 12 labourers are doing a 12-hour shift daily along the three roads. They are busy cutting down the trees, some of them at least 60 to 70 years old, to ensure that the corporation meets the 20-month deadline it has set to complete the ambitious new bridge.
Already three trees are down and Shamsuddin, the supervisor employed with `Jaykumar,' the company assigned the tree felling, keeps the 12 men on their toes."We are doing well and I expect to finish with all 64 trees along this right hand side of Khadki road in the next six days," he adds as a matter of fact and with a tinge of satisfaction. He has about a month to cut down all the 200-odd trees.
The huge and shady trees form a beautiful canopy as far as the eyes stretch. There are peepul, neem, Ashok, coconuts and Karanjee presenting a sight that tempts passers-by to abandon their journey and sit under their shade. On Sunday, many were actually doing exactly that.
Most of these trees have well-developed girth ranging between 600 mm and 5,000 mm. The average girth comes to around 1,400 mm. The PMC, however, takes solace in the fact that some of these trees will be replanted. And the Kirkee Cantonment Board has allocated a plot to plant the mandatory three trees that are required to be planted for each tree felled. "We have procured the necessary permission for the tree felling," V R Patil, in-charge of special projects, said. The new Holkar bridge is estimated to cost about Rs 61 crore.

It's makes you feel sad and extremely frustrating to see something like that happening right before your eyes and not be able to do anything about it. One look at the images you put up and you can't help feeling hatred for those responsible for it all, topping the list of which is our very own government running the slash-and-burn show. Learning from the protests and fights being put up these days (Anna Hazaare for instance) against what's wrong, you should gather the people of your locality and take a stand. The government WILL HAVE TO change it's decisions.
200 hundred fully bloomed trees is no joke!
We, a company called kleeto, have already started making efforts on our end to rectify the wrong that has been done. You can be a part of this rehab team to help this just cause.
We aim to reduce the felling of trees and forests for paper.
We collect from your place all the important documents and keep them safe from every possible harm (theft, termites, moisture etc). We digitize your documents and give you your password to view them online. So instead of using a part of another tree to xerox a document, next time all you need to do is view and forward a copy of it online.
And whenever you need your documents back, we deliver them to you at your doorstep.
