Govt works onRs 50,000-cr credit line for infrastructure

The Government is working on a special line of credit to boost infrastructure spending.The plan is to open a window through which funds up to Rs 50,000 crore can be made available to private sector players for public-private-partnership (PPP) projects.“The government is working out the details. The Finance Minister has already promised to help raise funds at lower interest rates for infrastructure players.The total funding is being considered,” a finance ministry official said. Funding could come from banks’ own resources and from multilateral and international agencies. The government may spend a part of the budgetary allocation of Rs 17,000 crore for development of roads through this mechanism.
