West Bengal:$2-bn solar PV unit planned

Astonfield, the USbased infrastructure and management group promoted by NRI Sourabh Sen, plans to set up a solar photovoltic panel unit in West Bengal. The estimated investment in the project could be over $2 billion (around Rs 8,000 crore). Sen, director of the Astonfield group, said the company is forming a JV with a Japanese firm for the project.The Japanese firm is a world leader in this field.However, Sen refused to disclose the name of the Japanese firm. The Japanese conglomerate has plants in Spain, Korea and Japan.Elaborating Astonfield group’s India plan, Sen said it is also implementing a solar power project in Bankura and a biomas project at Gangarampur in South Dinajpur district of West Bengal.
