Spencer's Retail, RPG Enterprises’ retail flagship, has teamed up with the Boston-based Au Bon Pain, world’s second largest bakery-led cafetria chain, to roll out Au Bon Pain stores across India.If things go right, expect the first Au Bon Pain outlet in the country to be ready in October 2008. Spencer’s, which operates through four formats — Spencer’s Hypermarkets, Spencer’s Super, Spencer’s Daily, Spencer’s Express, has retail footage more than 2 million sq ft and more than 400 Spencer’s stores across 65 cities. The RPG retail arm has plans to have at least 750 Spencer’s outlets in the country in the next one year.The Spencer’s topbrass is already working on the first set of locations for Au Bon Pain. At present, the US-based cafeteria chain has more than 230 outlets in the US, South Korea, Taiwan and Thailand.The officials said that the Au Bon Pain cafés inside Spencer’s would have information on nutritional value of products, which would allow customers to easily find the information they need to make smart eating choices. Au Bon Pain worldwide is known for serving authentic artisan breads, scrumptious pastries, savory sandwiches, soups and salads. Spencer’s will also source all its bakery requirements from the US bakery.
