On Tuesday, the civic standing committee approved a tender to construct the new Holkar bridge, even though the estimates are 36.5 per cent above the project cost.The construction of the bridge was important as the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has acquired the land from the military establishment with great difficulty. While the estimated project cost was Rs 44 crore, the tender cost has now gone upto Rs 61.57 crore. Commissioner Pravinsinh Pardeshi promised that the bridge will be a state-of-the-art structure with good aesthetics. The plan is such that there will be a flyover plus the bridge, which will be six feet above the existing bridge so that it does not get submerged in monsoons. Even the existing bridge will be given a facelift.The project is scheduled to be completed in 21 months once the work orders have been issued.
