Pune Metro

As part of government’s plan to take mass rapid transport system to major cities across the country, Pune has been identified as the next venue to have its own Metro.
Pune Municipal Corporation had asked the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) to prepare a detailed project report (DPR) for three elevated lines covering about 30 km.
One of the proposed lines will connect Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation AG College-Mhatre Bridge, another Oundh River-Shivaji Nagar Railway Station-Kalyani Nagar and the third will connect AG College-Shivaji Nagar Railway Station-Swar Gate. Most of the preliminary survey is done and the process of analysing the data is on. The DPR will be finalised soon.

Delhi Metro, which is consultant for the Pune Metro, had appointed sub-contractors to undertake topographic surveying, geo-technical study, socioeconomic impact and traffic and transportation study.
Apart from Pune, the DMRC is also looking into Metro projects in Bangalore, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Kochi and Chennai. It has prepared DPR in all these cities and work has either commenced or is about to start.
In Mumbai, work has already started on one of the three lines that will cover a distance of 52 km. In Hyderabad, Metro work will commence shortly.
