Also it will have provision for a similar runway (4000 x 60 m) in the future. The airport will have parking space for 50 aircraft at any time with 50 additional bays at fringe areas. An airport terminal building in semi-circular shape with conductive weather dynamics will have total area of 3 million sq.ft. Project is also building a separate cargo complex for handling and transferring cargo to-and-fro from airport.Special Economic zone:
A new SEZ of 2086 hectares, largest multi-product SEZ in India, would be built along side the airport. Out of 2086 hectares, 1472 hectares would be used by various processing units to be set-up and remaining 614 hectares for service sector units. Like all SEZs it will have financial incentives and soft taxation policy to attract investment. The initial set-up material for these units and later raw material will be duty-free. Major sections of SEZ would be -

The two small lakes would be deepened, cleaned and beautified to store and supply fresh water to MIHAN. Project will also have its own sewage water treatment plant(STP) to reuse water for non-domestic purpose. Storm drainage work consists of 10 km long channel and 9 cross-drainage work. MIHAN will have 2,4 and 6 lanes road with total internal length of roads at 51 km. Two flyovers would be built over the NH-7 which runs on one-side of project. The two flyovers would help connect MIHAN with other side of highway without causing traffic congestion at the main entrance.
In a historic decision, the Union cabinet gave its approval to transfer of Dr Ambedkar International Airport to a joint venture company to be set up for development of multi-modal international passenger and cargo hub airport at Nagpur (Mihan). The transfer will pave way for speedy implementation of a dream project conceived over a decade ago but was languishing for want of political support. In the joint venture firm, the AAI which owns the airport at present would hold 49 per cent stake and MADC would have the remaining 51 per cent of equity. The Cabinet also approved AAI subscribing to Rs 4.9-crore capital in the JVC, which would have a total subscribed capital of Rs 10 crore.
Half a million trees will be planted in MIHAN.The project includes an SEZ, a captive power plant, a health city, road and rail terminals, an international school, and a residential area on 3,600 hectares of land.MADC will upgrade the length of the Nagpur Airport runway from 3,200 to 4,000 metre and the capacity of terminal building from 400 passengers to 1,200-1,500 passengers. The company is also planning to provide space to airline operators for maintenance, refurbishment and overhauling purposes.
The Boeing Company named Nagpur city, located in the State of Maharashtra in central India, as the location for its planned regional maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) facility.Boeing is working with various stakeholders in India to determine appropriate key partners for the MRO service. The Nagpur facility will provide a convenient, centralized location for India-based airlines to schedule routine maintenance and overhaul work, and to have repairs completed.
