Jaipur:Sanganer Airport

Spread over an area of 23,000 sq mt, the upcoming terminal is undergoing a complete makeover and the project is scheduled to be over by this Diwali. The new terminal will be able to accommodate 250 cars at a time.As of now, it can take only 100. Once inside the airport, you could wait in a lounge created around two artificial water bodies and surf the internet with help of the wi-fi system across the airport. The new international terminal will provide you with an echo-free sound system. And, not only have 14 check-in counters been planned, any traveller can go up to any of these irrespective of which airline he is flying. Also, helping you cut down time will be a new in-line baggage screening system. This system will mean the baggage will pass through explosive and metal detectors along with X-ray before you check in. The screening will be done after you have checked in and handed over your luggage. The arrival terminal will have a new conveyor belt that wouldn’t force you to bend over.Though good news, the new international terminal would see passengers commuting to the domestic airport for connecting flights. That’s why AAI is planning for an integrated terminal at the new site for Rs 130-140 crore to provide a seamless travel to passengers. The plan is to commission the international terminal by August and then begin work on the extension. This is the benefit of the modular plan we are going in for all airport projects as it allows us to add terminals. For the Rs 240-crore integrated airport could emerge as a serious alternative to Delhi for cost-conscious airlines. Rajasthan is already among the few states in India that levies a 4% tax on jet fuel while Delhi has a high rate of 20% and it has no plans for lowering it as of now. The new international terminal at Sanganer airport will be equipped with building management system (BMS), much on the lines of Greenfield airport in Bangalore. The system will control passage of sufficient sunlight through the main building, there by cutting down heavily on electricity bills. This will ensure that normal temperature are maintained within the airport premises. The heavy congestion at the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) airport in Delhi has forced the airlines to look for new avenues for operation due to heavy losses incurred by them. After the completion of the new international terminal this year, the Sanganer airport won’t just receive diverted flights on foggy days, but also regular Delhi-bound passengers who could take high-speed trains or bus links to reach there capital after alighting here. The new airport will mean improved connectivity for Rajasthan from both within the country and abroad, boosting the state’s tourism potential. But in the long run, when Delhi emerges as a relatively costlier hub than the ones around it, some airlines could prefer it as an alternate to IGI.In addition, airlines say, the outbound traffic from Rajasthan alone is also increasing and this demand too would see improved international connectivity here.
