Bangalore:Peripheral Ring Road

The Karnata government will soon build a peripheral ring road around Bangalore, connecting all major roads. With a width of 330 feet, it promises to be the widest road in Karnataka. The road will have four lanes with a dedicated bus lane on either side. It will have a 36-feet median, reserved for future plans for an additional track or an elevated railway. Service roads will flank the road on both sides. The proposal to build the road is not new. During the President’s rule, governor Rameshwar Thakur had decided to delegate the job to the National Highways Authority of India. “We have changed plans and now the BDA will build it with public-private participation,’’ home minister V S Acharya told reporters after the cabinet meeting .The first stretch of 65 kilometres will be taken up at a cost of Rs 3,000 crore. The first phase will be completed in 30 months. The state is yet to select the private partner. The peripheral ring road will connect all major roads emanating from the city like Tumkur Road, Bellary Road, Old Madras Road and Hosur Road. The other stretch of the road will be taken up in the second phase. The road will lie on the outer side of the NICE road.
